Think in windows, not only apps
Many Mac workflows keep several browser, Finder, or editor windows open at once. Switching by application can leave you one step short of the document you meant to reach. A window switcher presents individual windows so you can identify the destination before activating it.
AltTab is a Mac window-switching project. Check its current controls and accessibility requirements before making it part of your everyday setup.
Test your most common case
Open several windows in the same app, give them recognizable titles, and try the switcher with your usual keyboard. Then test a second display and a full-screen app. These cases reveal whether previews, ordering, and display behavior suit your routine.
Avoid shortcut conflicts
Choose a shortcut that does not collide with your editor, terminal, or system shortcuts. If you customize it, write down the change and test it after updates. A switcher is useful only if you can invoke it reliably without interrupting the task you are trying to resume.
When you need placement instead
Finding a window and placing a window are separate tasks. If you already know which app you want but need to tile it beside another window, a window arranger such as Rectangle may be a better fit. Our AltTab versus Rectangle comparison explains the distinction.
Keep the desktop manageable
Use a switcher to reach a window; close or group windows when they are no longer useful. A larger preview grid does not replace a simple habit of naming projects and closing stale documents.
