Dead Day Sun: Darien Schooled (Vocals/Guitar), Alan Stephen
(Bass), Phil Lewd (Drums), Cass McMahon (Lead Guitar)
It was a make or break songwriting trip to the U.S. for Lead Singer/Guitarist Darren Schadel that became the catalyst for something great. Returning with a swag of awesome rock songs and valuable inspiration, and together with lifelong friends Alan Stephen (Bass) and Phillip Lew (Drums), Dead Day Sun (DDS) was born.
What followed was a further 8 months of intensive writing, demoing and gigging to hone their sound. Soon, the members of DDS came to the decision to make the best ROCK record they could, combining their talents with recognized US indie producer/songwriter Marc Swersky, and delivering one of the years best independent rock releases. Recorded in Australia and mastered in the U.S. by Leon Zervos at Stirling Sound (Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5, INXS), the six track EP was a powerful debut, blending superior melodies and comprehensive musicianship with a nod to their early influences of Led Zeppelin, U2 and Soundgarden.
DDS captured a sound that turned heads across the globe.
The track ‘Harmony’ has gained consistent airplay on national
radio with the Triple M Network and DDS have been the feature artist on the
Nationally Syndicated “Planet Rock“ program. And stronger interest
has surfaced in the U.S. – leading DDS to embark on a three week showcase
tour, performing in venues steeped in Rock history such as New York’s
CBGB’s and Sine’s.
The reaction in the U.S. was amazing, with tracks ‘Harmony’ and
‘Still’ from the EP added to high rotation on ROCK radio in New
Jersey, leading to impressive sales of the EP through online distribution.
The success of the EP has led DDS to return to the US for two subsequent mini-tours
– the most recent playing to packed crowds of over 1200 faithful supporters.
This tour also included a side trip to Philidelphia's famous Studio A complex,
and the recording of four new, as yet unreleased tracks.
Joined in July 2004 by Cass McMahon (lead guitar), the last
piece of the puzzle had finally been fit. And once again teaming up with producer
Marc Swersky, DDS returned to the studio in late 2004 to finish recording
their debut album. The result was surely a defining moment in the evolution
of the band - with these songs, DDS have more than ever before captured to
tape the outstanding songwriting, raw rock essence and live energy that defines
the band.
With their debut album set to be unleashed on the world, the buzz on DDS is
infectious. But the attention so far is in recognition of their most inherent
qualities – Dead Day Sun’s music is not a disposable commodity.
This is about the band, the singer and great ROCK songs.
