CASSETTES WON'T LISTEN - Small-time Machine

“So infectious it’ll be hard to see past tomorrow” – Spin

“It demands your attention, simply because it is one of the best songs
that 2008 has produced” – Pop Matters

Cassettes Won’t Listen is the brainchild of New York-based, multi-instrumentalist and producer Jason Drake and is the latest of an abundance of musical monikers he has realised over the years.

Cassettes Won’t Listen started as a bedroom affair in 2004, which culminated in the single Cutting Balloons.  With influential blogs such as Gorrila vs. Bear and Scissorkick offering rave reviews, Jason’s digital-only EP Nobody’s Moving soon followed with similar response.  Soon after, Jason was approached by the likes of Midlake, Asobi Seksu, El-P (ft. Trent Reznor) and Morcheeba who commissioned Jason to create countless Cassettes Won’t Listen remixes.

Nobody’s Moving was followed by The Quiet Trial and eventually Small-time Machine, receiving critic fanfare by the likes of WOXY, KEXP, SPIN and NY Press (as well as Perez Hilton) and an exclusive front page feature on Myspace.com.  In addition, CWL was named one of Urb’s Next 100 for 2007.

Drake is a singer/songwriter who uses bedroom electronica as a foundation; dubstep effects, glitsch-hop beats and New Wave synths all bubble through his material.  As a result, Cassettes Won’t Listen attract comparisons to the likes of Elliot Smith, Hot Chip, Beck and The Postal Service.

CASSETTES WON'T LISTEN - Small-time Machine is available through Pilot Light Records and distributed by Creative Vibes
